Giving Back to the Community
The dedication to our craft is matched only by our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). At Commune, sustainability underpins everything we do – from careful sourcing, production, our business practices and even in the communities we work. Our sustainable practices aim to leave a positive footprint in the countries where we operate. With our customers and communities at the heart of everything we do, Commune is committed to long-term partnerships with stakeholders and beneficiaries to achieve meaningful outcomes.
Understanding the furniture industry’s large-scale impact on not only the environment but also the sustainable growth of a community’s life, we contribute towards social causes that elevate quality of life, as well as environmentally sustainable practices and artistic efforts driven through our business activities. As a homegrown furniture design company, we are also passionate about supporting and growing the creative arts. If you have a cause you’d like for us to support, email email@example.com to get in touch with us.
Arts & Culture
The Art Faculty by Pathlight
The Art Faculty by Pathlight celebrates creativity, craft culture and visual art. We promote the special talents of people with autism and related challenges. For every sale of artwork and product, our differently-abled artists earn royalties to learn the value of work and financial independence.
Commune provided our versatile Dewey wooden stools to The Art Faculty for them to be specially clad with art by their differently-abled students. Archival prints were decoupaged on the stools and put up for sale at their Art for Autism exhibition at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore from 20 July – 30 Aug 2017. Commune was honoured to have been part of a meaningful initiative that aims to maximise the potential and showcase the talents of artists with special needs and support their inclusion.
We worked with Singapore’s premier theatre company, W!LD RICE to provide furniture for two theatre productions in 2017. Our Tusk side chairs and Geormani sofa made a special appearance in La Cage Aux Folles, from 19 Apr – 13 May 2017 at the Victoria Theatre, while our Tusk bench, Wilbur end table and accessories also made a guest appearance in Boeing Boeing, playing at the Victoria Theatre from 23 June – 22 July 2017.
Spearheaded by Young NTUC and the North East Community Development Council (NECDC), Project Refresh aims to improve the living environment of the less fortunate elderly and families staying in 1-room rental units in Kaki Bukit, through a series of refurbishment works such as painting, cleaning, bed bug fumigation and de-cluttering. Commune supported the initiative by donating furniture and helping out with the spring cleaning of the home and placement of new furniture.
160 volunteers from NTUC and NECDC's network such as unions, ITE College East, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Kaki Bukit GROs and community handymen gathered to help 24 low income families at Kaki Bukit.
Commune was honoured to have been part of a programme that brought together different entities and volunteers to address such community challenges.
OUR PROMISE TO
YOU & OUR ENVIRONMENT
At Commune, we stand by our promise that no person nor the environment
should be compromised in providing quality furniture at affordable prices.
SOURCING FROM SUSTAINABLE FORESTS
The timber we use are sourced from sustainable forests in North America and
parts of Asia. Our suppliers follow ethical practices and strict guidelines so as to
ensure that the environment does not suffer when you purchase from Commune.
LOW FORMALDEHYDE EMISSIONS
Formaldehyde is a harmful gas that is present in resins and glues. At Commune,
we ensure that our products have insignificant levels of formaldehyde
emissions by using costlier and higher quality raw materials in our production process.
LOW LEAD CONTENT
Lead can be found in the paints and solvents used to finish furniture and can be
harmful when ingested or inhaled. At Commune, we only use finishing products that
have low lead content as evidenced by Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). This helps
to keep not only our customers but our craftsmen safe as they work on our products.
